Intake moves quickly, and having a short checklist lowers overwhelm. The 48 hours before treatment can feel chaotic—logistics, goodbyes, fear. This checklist helps you prepare so you can arrive focused on what matters: starting your recovery.
Bring identification, medication details, insurance documents, and key contact numbers. Government-issued ID, insurance card (front and back), list of current medications with dosages and prescribing physicians, emergency contacts, and primary care physician contact. Any recent medical records or prior treatment discharge summaries can help the clinical team.
Pack 7–14 days of comfortable clothing, toiletries (no alcohol-based products), and comfortable shoes. Leave behind weapons, alcohol, drugs, excessive cash, and valuables. Most programs have specific packing lists; ask the admissions team for details.
Ask the admissions team about communication rules, family updates, and step-down planning from day one. Many programs restrict contact during early stabilization; knowing this in advance reduces anxiety. Ask how family will receive updates. Ask about the discharge planning process—when does it start, who is involved.
Arrange transportation. Do not drive yourself if you are actively using. Have someone bring you or use a ride service. Charge your phone before arrival—it may be held or restricted during intake. Notify key contacts that you will be unavailable. Eat a meal before arriving if possible. You have taken a courageous step. We are here to support you through every step that follows.
