A clear, step-by-step path to treatment.
From first call to discharge planning, our process is designed to reduce delays and improve recovery retention.
The six steps
The path from first call to lasting recovery follows a clear sequence. At RVK Treatment, we have streamlined each step to reduce delays and improve retention. Whether you are calling for yourself or a loved one, understanding the process can reduce anxiety and help you prepare.
Verify insurance or discuss payment pathways.
Match level of care and preferred location.
Begin detox or primary treatment with a personalized care plan.
Transition through step-down levels with aftercare planning.
Maintain support via alumni and outpatient pathways.
What happens at each step
Step 1 begins with a call to our 24/7 admissions line. A care guide will conduct a brief safety review—assessing urgency, substance history, and any immediate risks. We will verify insurance or discuss payment pathways in the same conversation. Most benefits checks can be completed within minutes. If you are in crisis, we prioritize rapid triage and can often arrange same-day admission.
Steps 2 and 3 involve matching you to the right level of care and location. Our clinical team uses the ASAM Criteria—a multidimensional assessment framework—to recommend detox, inpatient, residential, PHP, or IOP. We consider your substance history, medical conditions, psychiatric needs, and support systems. We also consider geography: which of our six coastal campuses is the best fit? Proximity to family, climate preference, and program specialization all play a role.
Steps 4 through 6 cover the treatment journey itself. You will begin at the appropriate level—often detox or inpatient—and progress through step-down care as you meet clinical milestones. Discharge planning begins at admission; we do not wait until the final days to arrange IOP, outpatient, or sober housing. Our alumni program maintains contact at 30, 60, 90, and 180 days post-discharge to support continuity and identify anyone who may need to return to a higher level of care. Recovery is a journey, and we walk it with you.

Every treatment plan is built around you
No two people arrive at treatment with the same history, and no two treatment plans should look the same. At RVK, your care team conducts a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment within the first forty-eight hours of admission. This assessment evaluates your substance use patterns, medical history, mental health conditions, trauma history, family dynamics, and personal goals for recovery.
Based on this assessment, your team builds a personalized treatment plan that evolves as you progress. Weekly integrated care conferences bring together your physician, therapist, case manager, and nursing staff to review your milestones, adjust medications, and plan for the next phase. You are not a passive participant in this process—clients are encouraged to share feedback, set personal goals, and actively shape their recovery trajectory.
Treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR for trauma processing, motivational interviewing, group therapy, experiential therapies such as art and music therapy, and family counseling sessions. Medication-assisted treatment is available for opioid and alcohol use disorders when clinically appropriate. Every intervention is selected based on your individual needs, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Discharge is a transition, not an ending
At many treatment programs, the final day of residential care is the last time a client hears from their care team. At RVK, we view discharge as a carefully planned transition into the next phase of recovery. Discharge planning starts at admission, not in the final week. Your case manager works with you and your family to arrange step-down services—whether that means PHP, IOP, outpatient therapy, sober living, or a combination.
Our alumni care team conducts structured follow-up at thirty, sixty, ninety, and one hundred eighty days after discharge. These check-ins are not administrative formalities—they are genuine conversations about how recovery is progressing, what challenges have emerged, and whether additional support is needed. If a former client needs to return to a higher level of care, we facilitate readmission without judgment or delay.
