How RVK Treatment approaches this level of care
Veterans face unique challenges—trauma, transition to civilian life, and often co-occurring mental health conditions. At RVK Treatment, our Veteran Treatment Program offers military-informed care with veteran-centered groups, trauma treatment, and community linkage.
Our program addresses the specific needs of veterans: PTSD, moral injury, transition stress, and the culture of military life. We offer veteran peer support and connect clients with VA resources when appropriate. Our clinicians understand military culture and the unique challenges veterans face.
Trauma treatment is integrated. Many veterans have experienced combat or military sexual trauma. We provide trauma-informed care and evidence-based trauma processing when clients are ready. We do not rush; we create safety first.
Community linkage connects veterans with VA benefits, veteran service organizations, and peer support. We support the whole veteran—addiction, mental health, and reintegration. Call our admissions line to learn more about our Veteran Treatment Program.
Veterans who seek treatment at RVK come from every branch of service and every era of conflict. Whether a client served in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or during peacetime, the military experience leaves lasting imprints that shape both the development and the recovery from substance use disorders. Our clinical staff includes veterans and clinicians with specialized training in military culture, chain-of-command dynamics, unit cohesion, and the unique stressors of deployment and reintegration. We understand that many veterans view seeking help as a sign of weakness—a belief instilled by military culture—and we work intentionally to reframe treatment as a mission-critical decision that demonstrates the same courage and commitment that defined their service.
Day-to-day programming in our Veteran Treatment Program combines evidence-based clinical interventions with the structure and camaraderie that veterans often respond to best. Morning formations and group check-ins create a sense of unit cohesion among veteran peers. Individual therapy sessions address PTSD, moral injury, survivor guilt, and the complex grief that accompanies military loss. Group therapy is facilitated by clinicians trained in veteran-specific issues and often includes veteran peer support specialists who model recovery and provide authentic connection. Experiential therapies such as equine-assisted therapy, outdoor adventure activities, and physical fitness programming tap into the strengths-based identity that many veterans carry, channeling discipline and resilience toward recovery goals.
Co-occurring mental health conditions are the norm rather than the exception among veterans in treatment. PTSD, traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain frequently co-exist with substance use disorders, creating complex clinical presentations that require integrated care. Our psychiatric team provides thorough diagnostic evaluations using veteran-specific assessment instruments and develops medication management plans that account for the interactions between psychotropic medications, pain management protocols, and substance use history. We offer evidence-based trauma therapies including prolonged exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and EMDR, implemented at a pace that respects each veteran's readiness. We coordinate with VA healthcare providers to ensure continuity of medical and psychiatric care throughout treatment.
Family involvement in veteran treatment addresses the unique strain that military service and addiction place on relationships. Military families often endure repeated deployments, geographic instability, and the emotional absence of a service member struggling with PTSD or substance use. Our family program helps spouses, partners, children, and parents understand the intersection of military experience and addiction, process their own trauma and grief, and develop communication strategies that support recovery. We offer couples therapy, family education workshops, and connections to military family support organizations such as the National Military Family Association and Blue Star Families. Rebuilding family trust and connection is often central to a veteran's motivation for sustained recovery.
Insurance and benefits navigation for veterans involves a complex landscape of VA healthcare benefits, TRICARE coverage, private insurance, and community care programs. Our admissions team has specialized expertise in veteran benefits and works directly with VA Community Care coordinators, TRICARE representatives, and Veteran Service Officers to determine the best coverage pathway for each client. Many veterans are eligible for VA-funded treatment through the Community Care program, which allows them to receive care at approved non-VA facilities like RVK Treatment. We assist with all required authorizations, documentation, and coordination to ensure seamless access to care. For veterans who are not VA-eligible or who prefer private treatment, we verify commercial insurance benefits and explore additional funding sources.
Outcomes for veterans who complete our program reflect the strength and resilience that characterize this population. Veterans who engage fully in treatment show significant reductions in PTSD symptom severity, substance use frequency, and suicidal ideation, alongside improvements in family functioning, employment stability, and overall quality of life. Our aftercare program connects veterans with VA outpatient services, veteran peer recovery support networks, Vet Centers, and community-based organizations that provide ongoing structure and fellowship. We maintain contact with veteran clients through alumni programming that includes veteran-specific support groups, outdoor recreation events, and service projects that help veterans rediscover purpose and connection. Our commitment is to serve those who have served our country with the same dedication and excellence they brought to their own service.
